Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

GE-MRIThe MRI Section is a division of the Radiology Department that provides services to inpatients, outpatients and ER patients. We use state of the art MRI procedures to evaluate structures within the body. Our scanners consist of 2 High Field Strength top of the line systems and one open magnet which is used for patients who may not be able to be scanned in the larger magnets. The open magnet is very conducive for large patients and is comfortable for children and patients who may be uncomfortable in smaller spaces.

The most common uses of MRI's are for early detection and treatment of diseases. The procedures are extremely precise and little or no preparation is needed on the patients’ behalf.

MRI procedures include: evaluation of brain for stroke, tumor, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological disease; evaluation of tumors or other soft tissue abnormalities in the neck, abdomen (including liver, pancreas, adrenal glands, kidneys), pelvis, and other extremities.

Magnetic Resonance Angiogram (MRA), is a type of MRI, that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to provide pictures of blood vessels inside the body. MRA procedures include: evaluation of arteries in the brain for aneurysm or occlusion; evaluation of arteries in the neck, body or extremities for stenosis or occlusion; evaluation of veins for occlusion or thrombosis and evaluation of abdominal aortic aneurysms.

As the evolution of healthcare continues to point toward non-invasive procedures, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Section will be at the forefront of technology offering patients and physicians custom studies for challenging cases.

The MRI Section consists is managed by David Fugett RT (R). We are on call 24 hours for emergencies including weekends and holidays. This section performs over 8,400 exams each year. You may contact the MRI Section by calling (479) 314-6200 or by emailing the section manager David Fugett.
