To Save a Life is a program provided by St. Edward Mercy Health System. It is funded by grants awarded by the Arkansas and Ozark Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and The Regional Team of the Sisters of Mercy. The program provides uninsured and underinsured men and women full, free access to breast screening and diagnostic procedures. To Save a Life, promotes breast cancer awareness and detection through special events and education activities. Support in navigating breast health services is also available.
St. Edward Mercy Mobile Mammography Unit Celebrates 20 Years
The St. Edward Mobile Mammography Unit, purchased by the St. Edward Mercy Auxiliary, is celebrating 20 years of service. The unit provides screening mammograms and is the only mobile unit in the state to feature fully digital equipment. It visits each of our satellite hospitals once a month. This includes Mercy Hospital Scott County in Waldron, North Logan Mercy Hospital in Paris, and Turner Memorial Hospital in Ozark. Funds received this year will allow the van to visit several more convenient locations.
Screening Mammograms are also provided through the St. Edward Mercy Women’s Center. Patients needing further testing and treatment will be seen at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center.
Early Detection is the Best Protection
The To Save a Life program also provides educational resources through participating in local health fairs, hosting various educational events, and partnering with employers, churches, and community organizations. One in seven women will develop breast cancer, and we will continue to work with Susan G. Komen for the Cure and other area healthcare providers to raise the level of public awareness, thereby empowering women and men with the knowledge to battle this dreaded disease.
