EXECUTIVE PATIENT SAFETY ROUNDING
Identify and Resolve Safety Issues Prevent Harm
Executive Patient Safety rounding is a mechanism in which senior leaders at St. Edward Mercy demonstrate to physicians and co-workers the organization’s commitment to building a culture of safety. The purpose of these rounds is to surface and resolve patient safety issues, with the goal of preventing harm to patients, visitors or co-workers. Leaders conduct safety rounds in all areas that touch patients. Rounds provide an informal method for leaders to talk with front-line co-workers, physicians and patients about possible safety issues in the organization and show their support for reporting patient safety events including near misses.
All issues identified through the rounding process are categorized, prioritized based on severity, and forwarded to managers for feedback and resolution.
Through patient safety rounding, leaders also promote an open and timely communication about safety issues that might otherwise go unreported.
