National Patient Safety Goals

St. Edward Mercy

St. Edward Mercy assesses patient needs, its environment, national patient safety initiatives and health-system recommendations to select and develop our Patient Safety Goals. These goals are carefully implemented and monitored to ensure high outcome compliance.

Some of our patient safety goals include:

  • Recognition and acknowledgement of risks to patient safety and clinical events with initiation of actions to reduce these risks
  • Creating a culture of safety
  • Improve the accuracy of patient identification
  • Improve the effectiveness of communication among caregivers
  • Improve the safety of using medications
  • Improve the safety of using infusion pumps
  • Reduce the risk of health-care associated infections
  • Accurately and completely reconcile medications across the continuum of care
  • Reduce the risk of patient harm resulting from falls
  • Eliminate wrong site, wrong patient, and wrong procedure surgery
  • Executive rounding on patient safety
