National Patient Safety Goals
St. Edward Mercy assesses patient needs, its environment, national patient safety initiatives and health-system recommendations to select and develop our Patient Safety Goals. These goals are carefully implemented and monitored to ensure high outcome compliance.
Some of our patient safety goals include:
- Recognition and acknowledgement of risks to patient safety and clinical events with initiation of actions to reduce these risks
- Creating a culture of safety
- Improve the accuracy of patient identification
- Improve the effectiveness of communication among caregivers
- Improve the safety of using medications
- Improve the safety of using infusion pumps
- Reduce the risk of health-care associated infections
- Accurately and completely reconcile medications across the continuum of care
- Reduce the risk of patient harm resulting from falls
- Eliminate wrong site, wrong patient, and wrong procedure surgery
- Executive rounding on patient safety
