ORGAN PROCUREMENT

ARORA

St. Edward Mercy Medical Center (SEMMC), in affiliation with the Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency (ARORA), is an advocate for organ donation and supports the freely-given decision to allow organ donation and tissue donation. SEMMC has an established Organ and Tissue Recovery Committee chaired by one of the hospital’s neurosurgeons. The committee has established policies and procedures for organ and tissue procurement that always considers the respect and dignity of the patient and their families and preserves their right to be informed of the option of organ and tissue donation. These policies allow families to make knowledgeable assessments of the various alternatives regarding end of life decisions.

Recently, ARORA presented St. Edward Mercy Medical Center with a certificate of appreciation for supporting organ donation. Special recognition was given to Sister Chabanel Finnegan and Diane Piercy RN for their hard work developing policies and providing education.
