Quality care is a top priority for St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and
we’re
committed to making continual improvements to the services we provide
our patients. St. Edward Mercy understands that information about quality
care is extremely important as you make health care decisions for yourself
and your family. With a deep tradition of service exemplified by justice,
excellence, stewardship and respect for the dignity of each person,
St. Edward Mercy is committed to providing quality and compassionate care
to those it serves. St. Edward Mercy has been monitoring patient satisfaction
for several years. We listen to what our patients tell us about their care
and the service they received while at our facility. We have teams in place
to review the information and these teams work hard on improvement initiatives
that are driven by patient feedback.
In 2002, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in conjunction
with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) began developing
an instrument to measure and publicly report patient perceptions of care.
The goal of this public reporting instrument, as stated by CMS, is to provide
consumers with information that might be helpful in choosing a hospital.
The survey instrument is known today as the Hospital Consumer Assessment
of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) and is the first national,
standardized, publicly reported survey of hospital patients’ perspectives
of their care. The survey is designed to capture data that allows for
objective and meaningful comparison of hospitals on topics that are important
to consumers. CMS has taken substantial steps to assure that the survey
is credible, useful, and practical. This methodology and the information
it generates will be made available to the public through the CMS website
at www.hospitalcompare.hhs.org.
CMS has requested hospitals to voluntarily survey their patients and release
that data for public reporting. St. Edward Mercy has chosen to participate
and is proud to share our results with the public, support transparency and
provide consumers with information about the quality of care they receive.
If you have any questions about patient satisfaction at St. Edward Mercy
or about HCAHPS data please contact us at 479-314-6287.
