St. Edward Mercy Raises Money for Kids in Need

Fort Smith, Ark. – June 8, 2009 - St. Edward Mercy Medical Center will present a check in the amount of $1500 to the Community Services Clearinghouse at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 22 at Mercy Fitness Center. Media are invited to attend the presentation. Funding for the check presentation comes from the first-ever St. Edward Mercy Zumba-thon.

“We had a great turn out; it was a lot of fun and we look forward to hosting it again,” said Paula Lind, event chair and section manager at Mercy Fitness Center. “It is heartwarming to know that the kids of our community will receive good meals throughout the summer because of this event.”

Zumba-thon, an event hosted by Mercy Fitness Center, was held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. Attendees paid $20 to participate and could also purchase a t-shirt for $20 with proceeds going to the Community Services Clearinghouse Meals for Kids backpack program. The Meals for Kids program distributes 2500 backpacks to children enrolled in area schools so they have food for the weekend.
